Board Policies & Position Statements

In recent years, the Board has developed a series of policies which are designed to direct its activities, and these are listed below:

Allegation Review Policy Manual

This Manual is intended to provide a framework for the objective and fair review of an allegation against the practice of a registered or formerly registered psychologist in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Registration Policy

This Registration policy is intended to outline the current processes in place in Newfoundland and Labrador when a person is applying for registration as a psychologist as per the Psychologists Act, 2005 and the Psychologists Regulations, 2018.

It is intended as a reference tool to assist the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board (NLPB) in executing their duties with respect to the registration process in a manner which is consistent with the legislation governing the practice of psychology in the Province. It is also a reference guide for Applicants and Registrants as it outlines procedures related to the registration and renewal processes and other issues related to the registration process.

 

Supervision Policy

The Supervision policy provides a framework for the current processes in place in Newfoundland and Labrador when a person is provisionally registered as a psychologist as per the Psychologists Act, 2005 and the Psychologists Regulations (2018).

It is intended as a reference tool to assist the Newfoundland and Labrador Board (NLPB) and registrants in executing their duties with respect to the provisional registration process in a manner consistent with the legislation governing the practice of psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is also a reference guide for Provisional Registrants, outlining procedures, as to all aspects of the provisional registration process.

 

Quality Assurance Policy

This Quality Assurance policy is intended to provide a framework for the current processes in place in the Quality Assurance(QA) and Continuing Education(CE) program for registered psychologists in Newfoundland and Labrador as per the Psychologists Act, 2005 and the Psychologists Regulations, 2018. The CE program was established to promote and maintain high standards of practice within the profession of psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador. It was also intended to provide education to the profession and to proactively ensure safe, competent and ethical psychological services to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This policy is intended as a reference tool for the Board (NLPB) to assist in executing their duties with respect to the Quality Assurance/Continuing Education process in a manner consistent with the legislation governing the practice of psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador. It also serves as a reference guide for Applicants and Registrants, outlining procedures, as to the NLPB’s expectations in the Quality Assurance/Continuing Education Program process.

 

Board Powers and Governance

This Board Powers and Governance policy provides a framework for the  processes in place in the province with respect to the powers of the Board and Board governance as per the Psychologists Act, 2005 and the Psychologists Regulations, 2018.

It is intended as a reference tool for the Board to assist the Board in executing their duties with respect to the Board powers and governance of the practice of psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is also a reference guide for Board members as well as applicants and registrants, providing step by step instructions, as to the Board’s powers and the governance process.
